Theoretical Issues of Literary Genres: "The Classification and Negation of Genres" as an Example

Abstract

The issue of classifying literary genres and denying them is one of the issues that concerned the theory of literary genres. It was the subject of interest to many researchers and critics from the Greek thought to the modern era. It was a trail to find out the foundations according to which literary genres were classified, and the reasons that caused them to be separated. However, this was difficult to achieve because it was not easy to reach constants that can be relied upon in classification due to development and continuous change. This led some critics to call for the technical unity among literary genres, and its formation of a more general genre under the name of literature.
